Industrial knives play a key role in many industries, from recycling to material processing in various manufacturing processes. Whether they are used for cutting, grinding or shredding materials, choosing the right knife for a specific material can significantly improve the efficiency, precision and durability of your equipment. In this blog, we will look at how to choose the right industrial knife for processing various materials such as wood, metal, plastic and rubber, and why this choice is crucial to the success of your manufacturing process.

1. Knives for Wood Processing

Wood is one of the most commonly processed materials in industry, but its processing can be challenging due to variations in hardness, moisture, and structure of the material itself. Knives used for woodworking must be specially designed to ensure clean cuts without damaging or splitting the material.

Advice: For woodworking, choose knives with high-quality steel and precision sharpening. Hard blades with wear-resistant coatings can extend the life of equipment. Knives with specific geometries (eg hollow or straight cuts) can help achieve better results for specific types of wood.

High-quality steel blades that resist corrosion and don't cut too aggressively can allow for cleaner cuts without generating too much heat, which can cause plastic to melt. Also, knives with a wider cutting angle ensure better precision when processing soft plastic materials.

4. Rubber processing knives

Rubber is a material known for its elasticity and resilience, which means that cutting and processing it is challenging. Rubber blades must be designed to cope with its flexibility and wear resistance.

Advice: For processing rubber, it is necessary to use knives with special blade geometries that allow for better control and precision. Steel knives with a high chromium content can provide the necessary strength and wear resistance. Also, knives with a larger cutting “carrier” (e.g. with a hollow blade) can help reduce pressure on the material and facilitate precise cutting of the rubber.
